Account Rollover is a great tool to explore the Common App, save answers to questions in the Common App tab of your account, and house ideas for your essay. As you work on your applications you can find essays or short answer questions in three sections:. Colleges can either make the personal essay optional or required. In the writing section of your Common App tab, you will see a table that lists each college's requirements.
Many colleges include short answer questions or essay prompts within this section. You can find specific information about each college's individual writing prompts here. Some colleges use a separate writing supplement. Not all colleges have a writing supplement. Some colleges only request this supplement based on how you answer other questions.
You can find more information about writing supplements on the Dashboard or your My Colleges tab. Submission is a three-step process: 1 Reviewing your application.

Plan essays. Submit your application. Filling out your application takes time. A copy of your high school transcript In the Education section you will enter your high school grades and current courses. A list of your activities, work, and family responsibilities You can share your interests and who you are outside of the classroom in the activities section. Academic honors and achievements The Activities section isn't the only place to show your passion and where you excel! Creating a first year Common App account is easy and should only take a few minutes.
Choose your registration type. If you are applying to college for the first time you'll select the "First Year Student" button. Provide your login credentials. Make sure you use an email address you check often. The other colleges the student is applying to are listed along the left side of the page.
Your own My Colleges page will not show any colleges until you add some to your list, as described in the Dashboard section above. Once you add schools, the My Colleges page will show the schools you have selected. As an example, below is a screenshot of the supplement for Amherst College. Make sure you take a careful look at any and all headings in this section to determine if there are more supplementary questions for you to answer — they might not all be immediately visible. You can access it at any time by clicking on the Common App tab at the top of the screen.
Others will ask you to enter certain small items of data, such as a name or phone number. Your guidance counselor or another school official may also be able to help. It includes sections like name, address, and demographics.
Scroll down to see each section header, and click on the downward pointing triangle to open each menu and complete each field. We strongly recommend that you compose your essay first in a Word document or other format outside of the Common App website.

Everything is in place for you to actually submit your application to Amherst through the Common App portal. The first step in the submission process will involve reviewing your application yet again. It may be helpful to actually print the PDF and review it on paper. Sometimes seeing a physical copy can reveal typos or other mistakes you missed when reviewing it on a screen.
Receive Application Review Call — Also, if you want three former admissions officers to evaluate your application before you submit it and give you valuable feedback, go to AdmissionsCheckup. Ok, so we go to the Common App website and login. You will need to put in your credit card info in order for it to actually go to the college or university. If you move the cursor onto the page, you will get these buttons that will allow you to download the Common App to your computer as a PDF or print it.
Keep in mind that the buttons may look slightly different on different browsers. I hope this helps. Search through the characteristics and add colleges that align with them.
